History is a fascinating collection of stories connecting human beings and experiences through time, often providing inspiration, but also revealing mistakes made that we hope never to repeat. We often refer to history to motivate a movement and to justify making changes for the better. In the early 1990’s patient safety was thrust into the spotlight forcing us to take a hard look at the problems facing our healthcare system, patients and families, and the workforce - thus today’s patient safety movement was formed. How did we get here, and where we do we go from here? During this session we will answer those questions by hearing from three patient safety luminaries who have been part of the movement since the beginning. They will share their unique experiences that helped to shape the movement and lead us in a discussion about how to continue on the right path forward, so we can look back in 20 years and ask: Are patients safer than they were before?
